POSITION OVERVIEW
The Festival Manager, Accessibility is charged with managing key accessibility elements of the Sundance Film Festival including overseeing aspects of the Festival accommodation process, creating resources and training around accessibility, and supporting the Community & Belonging team in ensuring that the Festival is equitable for all. The Festival Manager will oversee a team of volunteers, contractors, and a seasonal coordinator creating an inclusive Festival experience. Together, the Manager will ensure there is clear communication online and within Festival theaters and venues, and facilitate a smooth accommodation request process and experience for the Sundance Institute community.
This temporary position works full time (40 hours per week) from Monday, October 26, 2026 to Friday, February 12, 2027 and requires extended hours, including evenings and weekends to meet key deadlines and respond to on-call needs as assigned. The majority of this position’s work can be conducted remotely out of any of our operating states, until the department comes together in Boulder, CO in January to support the in-person elements of the Festival.
Top priorities include but are not limited to…
Managing the creation and operational implementation of all accessibility accommodations for Festival guests.
Leading the frontline Accessibility team (contractors, staff, and volunteers) with policy and procedural understanding, cross-departmental scheduling, the implementation of their roles, and coaching from onboarding through the conclusion of their role.
Training and supervising the Festival Coordinator to field requests, inquiries, concerns, or feedback related to Festival accessibility through the accessibility hotline and email account and respond in a timely manner.
Coaching staff, volunteers, and service providers on the standards, expectations, and best practices of the Institute and its live events during the Film Festival.
Acting as the primary point of contact for Festival partners by providing guidance on Institute standards, creating reference materials, and introduction to local service providers.
Building structure and scope around all communication services including managing relationships with American Sign Language (ASL) & Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) Vendors, including rate negotiation.
Supporting the management of the operational budget including balancing expenses and processing invoices.
De-escalating interpersonal conflicts or addressing unexpected accommodation breakdowns related to accessibility at official Festival venues in real time.
Spearheading the assessment of programmatic barriers and creating department-specific operating procedures.
Completing a comprehensive wrap report, scheduling meetings as needed, to provide a clear review of areas for improvement and practices that worked well.
Working with Manager, Accessibility on various accessibility projects, as directed.
You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:
3 years of experience in diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging or transferable.
Understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and event accessibility.
Communication skills required to work effectively with a variety of people and communication styles.
Experience working with people with disabilities, coordinating American Sign Language/ Communication Access Realtime Translation vendors, and implementing environmental accommodations is preferred.
Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage and prioritize to meet simultaneous deadlines.
Valid driver’s license and the successful completion of MVR background check.
Legal authorization to work in the United States.
